WARNING! Scammers on free advertising sites selling so called pedigree kittens for cheap, do not approach these people and go only to a registered breeder. I have also noticed people selling very young unvaccinated, unregistered kittens for cheap on these sites, again these type of kittens do not make great pets and are far to young to be rehomed, they most likely won't be purebred siberians either!

Information on my website 'adopting a kitten page' on why you should choose a reputable, registered breeder.

Buyers beware

Its the time of year again when people will start breeding again and advertising litters for sale. You may be loooking for a kitten yourself but do you know what to look for in a breeder? You may think we are all the same but we are not..
below is a screenshot of a person who mates siberians unregistered..i refrain from calling him a breeder because he does not deserve the title..he sells his kittens at 8 wks with nothing done and cannot provide registration for his kittens because he is not registered himself. These people offer no guarantees of health and will have had no checks done by a vet. To sell kittens at 8 wks is irresponsible. They are too young and still need to develop emotionally.

Going to a registered reputable breeder is important if you want to try and ensure health and pedigree of cats. These backyard breeders offer no health testing of parents and probably do not even have permission to breed their cats. They may also be breeding several litters from the same cat each year leaving no breaks.

As a rule sites like pets4homes are not the place to be looking for a kitten. It angers me that people like this person get away with breeding for money and cutting corners. Yes he is cheap but why is that? Because he has very little invested in his cats and standards are absent. You will struggle to get a good kitten from any registered breeder for less than £700. Some breeders even charge £1200 which personally is too much.

I often get contacted by people who have bought cats from these people upset because the kitten got sick etc. Well there is nothing you can do once they have your money.  Registered breeders generally follow a code of ethics to ensure they are doing things correctly and you can report them if they do not. This way you have some peace of mind.

If looking for a kitten PLEASE do your research and know what to look for in a registered breeder. The kitten may cost more but you will get peace of mind and a well bred health checked kitten.

See my website druzhina siberians adopting a kitten page as there is alot of advice there on choosing a breeder.

  1. We chose a beautiful kitten called Effie after lots of research, allergy tests and advice. We brought her home at 13 weeks, vaccinated, chipped, and with all the paperwork. She is a sociable, loving cat who brings so much joy to our lives. The love, care, knowledge and experience that Clare at Druzhina Siberians puts into every cat and kitten is clear to see and shows that an excellent breeder means you get a healthy, happy kitten.

  2. Not to mention neutering your kitten :) Thankyou kate for that lovely statement. Good breeders go above and beyond to try and ensure animals in our care have the best we can give. Effectively the breeder is looking after your kitten and what they do in the first few months determines how they will turn out. Knowledge is essential but also a good heart and to not be motivated by money as this person clearly is. He will rehome without spending a penny at the vets and most likely feeds poor food. They are shipped off for maximum profit. Thats why breeders like myself get so angry at these people. The people that buy from him are either uninformed or do not care about the kitten. Its so sad.
